Welcome!

Missihippie– (n.) a person from Mississippi sub-culture who rejects the values and practices of traditional Southern society. One who possesses a core belief set revolving around the values of peace and love. One who believes that authenticity trumps manners. One who chooses individuals over institutions. Missihippies are known, on occasion, to be pot-stirrers and are sometimes considered irreverent by the established community.

I’m Courtney. A Jesus-loving, make-up wearing, feminist, Missihippie. I love books, coffee, and conversation. I believe that chocolate and popcorn make up an entire food group. I’m a wife to Steve and a mom to our three littles: Jane Gray, Tate, and Ford. Steve and I both work outside our home as Licensed Professional Counselors. (Yes, we’re THAT couple.) And we built our family and our life around this principle: Love God. Love People. I am a recovering know-it-all. And I have first-hand experience in seeing Jesus change lives. (Ok. Mainly mine.) Sometimes I wince at the thought of my former self. I pretty much had life figured out by age 18. (Eye roll) But after moving away from home and watching life as I’d known it fall completely apart, I started to admit that maybe I had been wrong about a few things… or several thousand. You’ll hear some of those stories here.

Anyway, this is the space I use to write about all the things: Jesus, marriage, motherhood, emotional health, spiritual health, social justice… you get the picture. There’s no lack of ideas or loss for words in this place. You probably won’t agree with all of it. That’s ok. It ‘s great actually. I want us to have the conversations that need to happen. So, I’ll go first, and you jump in. I have this crazy idea that if we all join together, we just might figure some things out.

Just a few family rules: Be kind. Be real. You can be irreverent, (See above) but you can’t be mean. Seriously. I have kids. I’ll delete you.

Thank you for reading.
